weekend ickiness

This weekend was horrible!!  Okay, not totally horrible, because Kevin came over and I certainly enjoyed my time with him.  He even enjoyed participating in the [livejournal.com profile] redial_the_gate  chat and watching a kickass episode of SG-1.  He wasn't that hot though on some of the episodes of season one though!  Anyways, the reason it was horrible is because I came down with a cold--one that hit me really really hard.  It started Thursday with a sore throat, and by Friday I was having nasal congestion problems.  By Saturday I was downright miserable, partially because another little friend decided to visit me, so I was all around uncomfortable.   Its now Tuesday, I still don't have much of a voice, I didn't get nearly anything I wanted to get done this weekend, and still carrying around a box of tissues like a security blanket.

I was fortunate that I took off half a day on Friday as I worked an extra five hours unexpectedly on Wednesday, so it gave me the opportunity to be less miserable at work and more miserable at home--though I spent the entire time working, cleaning, and doing laundry.  ick.

I did get one thing done, my entry for Jack Alpha-Bits, and knowing that it was written while legally high on cold and allergy medication on top of the constant light-headedness I get when I blow my nose (which is all the time!!) I really need a beta to look over it once.  I just have no idea if it is even good, let alone whether I have their voices or can write in proper English right now...

Oh, and spending all day on the phone with airline peoples when you don't have a voice==bad.  Singing in the car on the way home after spending the day on the phone with airline peoples when you don't have a voice==even badder.  I'm squeaking and losing all voice on the stressed syllables of words.  I think the Grahams find it funny.

Season One has some clunkers. It's only when you're more addicted that you look back and go "aw, newbie team. they're so cute and pettable."

Kevin was fun to hang out with at the redial chat (along with you). Sorry about your cold though.

true... my favorites are usually in seasons 3-5, 7-8... but I'm insistent that he watch them in order at least once... so all the ones he watches out of order he will watch again!! *he promised me!* It was quite interesting listening to him wail and complain and gasp during the episodes, including the redial chat... he's so animated when watching TV, though interestingly enough not during movies in theatres... i'm the loud one there, usually jumping in my seat at any kind of surprise.

I had seriously considered canceling the sleep-over because of the cold--didn't want to get him sick--and it was really sad that a pro to canceling is that I wouldn't miss the redial chat *innocentlook* but instead i got the best of both worlds... and I'm sure I'll find out by friday whether he got whatever I have, and then I'll start a weekend regime of constantly consoling him over the phone (Kev now lives almost two hours from me, so we don't get to see each other often, and our work schedules don't agree with each other--actually his work schedule is all seven days a week... bad for social life...)
*I'm babbling again... must be tired...*

Season One did indeed have some clunkers- including my absolute least favorite of all time, Hathor. But it had some great ones, too. Cold Lazarus, The Nox, Thor's Hammer,The Torment of Tantalus, Bloodlines, Fire and Water, Tinman, There But For The Grace of God...

We just made it through The First Commandment, and Cold Lazarus and the Nox are probably the next time he comes over! We actually skipped through some of the First Commandment he was that annoyed at Hanson but I'm glad we're getting into several good episodes fort he next several rounds...

On the other hand, I just got two new people who want to take the long road down through the 'gate with me (two newlyweds!) Am totally excited as well.

First Commandment is one of the worst episodes. I find Sam letting her gun get taken away to be totally out of character. I would certainly have shot the b*****d, myself. Even if she was convinced that he was mentally ill, the situation called for her to shoot him, no ifs ands or buts. They really hadn't gotten a handle on Sam for the first few episodes. Amanda Tapping had to tell the writers (very nicely, I'm sure) not to worry about writing for a woman, just to write her like all the other characters, and she'd take care of the 'woman' part. I was going to make a comment about mu take on Bloodlines, but it occurs to me that you are seeing the first season for the first time, so we will discuss later. ; )
By the way, there seems to be something funky going on with your site layout. The entries and comments spread out under a transparent sidebar, so it's pretty hard to read and comment. If you are using a browser other than IE, you may not be seeing that...

Kevin is seeing the show for the first time; I've seen all of season one at least twice (probably not much more as I've not revisited it as much as later seasons) I am however still very very new to the Stargate fandom (TV anyways--loved the movie since I was 13) I believe I've only seen bloodlines twice (as I'm looking at the summary). I have not watched any of the special features on the seasons though, so I don't know any of the back stories! Kevin totally wanted Sam and Jack to blow the guy away as soon as they saw him (without us getting to the point where we knew he was crazy--he likes to jump the gun a bit anyways...)

My layout works perfectly for Apple Safari, firefox, and IE for Mac (that horrible horrible browser I only keep for webdesign!) but I'll check at work to see if there's anything funky on the windows machine... the base code I used is from a very long time ago, and LJ took a while to upgrade the base layers to allow for userpics (can't believe they had the problem with that in the first place) and the sidebar has been a reoccurring issue since I went orange (my green version from two years ago never had that issue) Thanks for the heads-up though--its rare I get any comment on the layout or any problems people might have with it...

just took a look in IE for Windows... that is ugly!!! hrm... not sure how to progress on this, but at least I know what I am looking for potentially... I might just have to give up replying in my style and go back to LJ regular looks...

Killing him on sight would have been a tad hasty, but letting him take the gun was just stupid. There's no excuse - that was just bad writing, I'm afraid - although now it's canon, so we have to find ways to explain it. ; )
What I was going to say about Bloodlines, is that when Daniel shoots the tank, Sam disapproves on the basis that they are helpless and killing them is morally wrong. It sets up an interesting conflict between her and Daniel, but I think Daniel was right. There is no such thing as an innocent Goa'uld, and they would all have been used to enslave Jaffa or hosts. Daniel is more ruthless here, but correct. I wrote a story about that (Of Ruins and Soldiers) It was one of my first, so I would write it very differently now, but I still like the concept. I may rewrite it now that my writing is a little better.
