layout update: Dreamwidth

So, I soo wasted loads of time today I should have been working on my volunteer work updating my samantilles@DW layout in Stargate goodness. But I think it looks not too shabby (though some tweaking will be necessary shortly!)

*happeh/satisfied sigh*

Well, I'd comment over there, but it won't let me use OpenID to comment.

So... is Dreamwidth easier to skin than LJ? I still haven't figured out LJ's bizarreness... and I'm fluent in CSS!

it wasn't easier (as they don't even have many skins to play with) but I managed to find the core CSS in a layout level layer and just edit that. I'm sure new developments will change things though.

Where did you find the CSS, Sam? Oh, and I like the colors in your DW page. That should probably worry you. ;)

Hmmm. Maybe I'll just stay here. I can't upload my entries.

It doesn't worry me!!! There's plenty of perty blue to keep me happy!!! I consider it a blending of our two extremes into a suitable medium!

As to where I found the CSS, I went into the "Layout" layer in advanced customization area, copied and made a new Layout level layer, and modified the CSS there. I'm sure theres a way that you can override it in a theme layer or such, but honestly, I was getting a bit annoyed since there are zero theme layers right now on DW. I'm a pretty decent code manipulator, and thats how I mutilate code into doing what I want!! *muahahaha*

The issue may be moot since I can't seem to upload entries without it crapping out.

are you trying to move your journal over there altogether? or are you looking to change some of the CSS on your current layout here in LJ?

[identity profile] sg-betty.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
No probs with my css here-and I'm getting a handle on the layout stuff in the developer area over there, although things look pretty weird at the moment.
I was trying to copy mu whole journal over there as a backup, but I'm having trouble copying the entries. Either it's very east to do something that aborts the process (and it take a very long time), or it's hanging and crashing. Since there's nothing to tell you exactly what it's doing, it's hard to tell what the problem is...

Hey, when you resize your window, does the bar at the top of the page get all weird?

[identity profile] samantilles.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
the bar that has your mini-icon plus your friend status to the visiting site? I actually disabled it unless its overridden by the blogowner. (and I had a heck of a time accounting for it with the background image on DW, as I had measured the side glyphs not to be cut in half by the header--but the bar up top had the background image behind it, skewing it all) When I'm on your site, I don't seem to have a problem with the bar though.

Hmmm... It get's thicker as it gets narrower, for me, eventually overlapping the black menu bar below it. On LJ it doesn't do that. I think it's an absolute/relative position thing. It's bugging me greatly.
